Terms and Conditions

The sponsor of this competition is the American Jewish Congress, a nonprofit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of New York, and having its registered office address at 654 Madison Avenue, FL 9, New York, NY 10065 (the “American Jewish Congress”, “us”, “we”).

1. Eligibility

  • Entry is open to students in the United States. Students must be at or between the ages of 18-23 and currently attending their undergraduate or graduate studies at the time of the competition.
  • We may ask you to provide proof of identity, residency, and age, to confirm that you are eligible to participate.
  • You may only enter once and in your own name.

2. Submissions

  • Submission in the competition constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  • Individuals must submit their work before the specified deadlines – no late submissions will be accepted.
  • There is no registration fee required and participation in the contest is free of charge.
  • All correspondence regarding the Solutions Challenge will be made through the contact details provided when registering.
  • The American Jewish Congress is not responsible for updating incorrect email addresses.
  • Submissions may be made as soon as registration opens. We recommend that you submit your essay and video well in advance of the deadline to avoid any last-minute complications.
  • The entrant represents and warrants as follows: (i) that the submitted essay and video are the entrant’s original work of authorship; (ii) that the submitted essay and video do not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity, intellectual property rights, or other rights of any person, entity, or other party; (iii) that the submitted essay and video do not violate any law or regulation; and (iv) that the submitted essay and video have not been published in any form or in any publication.
  • The American Jewish Congress reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions without notice and at its sole discretion.

3. Prizes

  • The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $2,500, a certificate of achievement, and an opportunity to meet with the leadership of the American Jewish Congress.
  • If there is more than one winner in a given year, the prize amount will be evenly distributed among the winners.
  • The runners-up (2nd and 3rd place) will receive Amazon gift certificates worth $500 and $250 each, along with certificates of achievement, and the opportunity to meet with the leadership of the American Jewish Congress.
  • The essays of the winner and the runners-up will be published on the American Jewish Congress website and featured in the organization’s newsletter.
  • Prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the announcement of the winners and runners-up.
  • Prizes are non-transferable and non-refundable.

4. Plagiarism and AI Assistance

  • The competition has a strict policy against plagiarism and the use of AI writing assistance. Essays found to have such content will be disqualified. This means students must ensure their work is entirely their own.
  • By submitting your work, you confirm that the entirety of your entry is your own work. It is the participant’s responsibility to make sure that the entry does not infringe on any third-party rights.

5. Competition Management

  • If this Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the American Jewish Congress, the American Jewish Congress reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any participant; or (b) subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition, as appropriate.
  • Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the American Jewish Congress (including its Officers and employees) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under American Jewish Congress’ control); (b) any theft, unauthorized access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the American Jewish Congress) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the American Jewish Congress; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by a winner or participant; or (f) use of the prizes.
  • The entrant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the American Jewish Congress and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses, including legal fees and costs, arising out of or related to: (i) any breach of any of the foregoing representations, warranties, covenants, or agreements by entrant; (ii) any infringement claims related to your submission; and (iii) your negligence, intentional misconduct, or fraud

6. Intellectual Property

  • By submitting your entry, you understand that the American Jewish Congress and anyone acting on behalf of the American Jewish Congress will have the irrevocable right to review, print, publish, distribute, and use, in any media, in perpetuity, your entry, including without limitation, the entry and your name or information for advertising, public relations and promotional purposes, without any further compensation.

7. Personal data

  • Upon the essay’s submission by you to us, it is hereby understood and agreed that the entrant has irrevocably conferred upon the American Jewish Congress the authority to process and use the entrant’s personal data. Such data will be used for purposes associated with and related to the competition. These purposes encompass, but are not limited to, the evaluation and communication concerning the submission, as well as public engagements pertaining to the competition finalists.
